BitGo Crypto-as-a-Service Revolutionizes European Finance with Seamless Regulatory Integration

BitGo Europe has launched a Crypto-as-a-Service platform across all 30 European Economic Area countries, offering crypto firms and fintech companies a MiCA-compliant infrastructure alternative to building regulated custody, trading, and compliance systems independently — arriving precisely as the June 30, 2026 MiCA transition deadline forces thousands of pre-registered crypto businesses to either obtain a CASP license or cease operations.

The MiCA Compliance Crisis and BitGo's Response

The scale of Europe's MiCA compliance challenge is stark. As of May 2026, only 194 crypto-asset service providers across the EU hold full MiCA authorization, against an estimated 3,000+ businesses that previously operated under transitional registrations. Poland alone accounted for over 1,400 of those pre-MiCA registrations. With approximately 75% of the pre-MiCA population expected to lose their registration status when the deadline passes, the industry faces a moment of forced consolidation — and BitGo is positioning its CaaS platform as the survival mechanism for firms that cannot obtain their own CASP license in time.

CEO Mike Belshe explained the service model: "All of your clients can be onboarded and have sub-accounts inside of BitGo. Now, they are your clients: you help them with support, you help them with all of the products, you do all that stuff, we don't do any of that. But they are now in segregated safe storage that's MiCA-compliant."

BitGo Europe GmbH holds a MiCA CASP license from Germany's BaFin, obtained in May 2025, which passports across all 30 EEA member states under the single licensing framework MiCA established. Partner firms integrate their existing wallets and customer accounts into BitGo's infrastructure as segregated sub-accounts, maintaining their own customer relationships and brand identity while operating within BitGo's regulatory authorization. The pricing model involves a monthly minimum fee described as "a couple of $1,000 a month" that scales with volume.

Service Stack and Custody Strength

The CaaS platform provides custody, asset transfers, trading infrastructure, and fiat payment system integration — all accessible via API designed for banks and fintech companies. BitGo's custody services include insurance coverage of up to $250 million, a material differentiator for institutional partners whose clients expect institutional-grade asset protection. The modular API structure allows partner firms to integrate selectively rather than adopting a full platform replacement.

For investors and crypto businesses navigating the MiCA transition, BitGo's CaaS offering represents a pragmatic path forward for firms facing the binary choice between full CASP licensing — expensive, time-consuming, and uncertain — and market exit. The infrastructure-as-a-service model also has implications for European market structure: rather than a wave of closures creating a vacuum, the CaaS model allows smaller firms to survive as white-label operators within BitGo's regulated shell. The net effect is likely a more concentrated but more stable European crypto market, with MiCA-licensed infrastructure providers like BitGo capturing an increasingly central role in the industry's plumbing.
